That is a harder question to answer than one might think. Though the citizens of Crockett Island mention “the mainland” dozens of times throughout the series’ seven episodes, they actually never specify which city, state, country, or region that “mainland” is.

In spite of its dark, beaten-down vibe, “Crockett Island” is actually filmed in the bucolic Garry Point Park in British Columbia, Canada.

The production crew built the set representing the human settlement on Crockett Island at Garry Point Park, located at 12011 Seventh Avenue, Richmond. Another member municipality of Metro Vancouver, Richmond is a coastal city in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia.

But based on the accents used in the show and the prevalent sweaters and long-sleeved shirts, it seems as though the series is supposed to take place on an island around Northeast America. Think Nantucket in Massachusetts or Star Island off of New Hampshire but without the tourism.

Few shows embrace their setting like Mike Flanagan’s Midnight Mass. In the first few episodes of the Netflix limited series, the tiny island of Crockett Island feels borderline claustrophobic. Yet as the series progresses, that evolves, transforming the discomforts of a small town into a true community that’s willing to pay the steepest price imaginable.

Considering the fate of Crockett Island, we don’t know if this is good or bad news. But no, Crockett Island as it appears in Midnight Mass is not real. The Crockett Cove Woods do exist in Maine, but from what we can tell they have no connection to the angel infested community from Netflix’s latest and spookiest original series.
