According to a report from Page Six, Shay Mitchell recently admitted that she was once very hesitant at the idea of announcing her pregnancy to the world because she feared she would suffer a miscarriage for the second time. Posted to her YouTube channel yesterday, the star said the first one didn’t go as planned and it was devastating.

The 32-year-old model/actress recently revealed to her fans and followers that she was expecting a child in June. She shared the news in a video, stating it took her around 6 months to announce it because she feared she’d suffer a miscarriage and have to admit to it publicly.

According to Mitchell, it was a very challenging experience, moreover, it came as a total surprise. The star admits she still has photos on her phone as well as the paperwork from prior doctor’s appointments. Even though she’s happy that she finally has a child on the way, there is still that feeling of loss.

In the very same video, the actress stated she and her boyfriend, Matte Babel, were not interested in going to public events for the time being on account of the child. Furthermore, discussing the emotional impact of a miscarriage, Shay said it’s easy to feel “broken as a woman.”

According to Wikipedia, a miscarriage is the spontaneous death of a fetus/embryo before it’s able to sustain itself independently. The most common symptom of the ailment is vaginal bleeding, which sometimes has additional symptoms including pain.

It’s not uncommon for there to be feelings of guilt, sadness, and anxiety afterward. Repeated miscarriages are sometimes the result of infertility, in other words, the inability to bear children. Shay isn’t the only woman to discuss this illness either.
