James Williams As reported by the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office and the Bluffton Police Department on Tuesday morning, the body of an elderly man who had been reported missing from a memory care facility was located.
Bluffton resident Jack Tribble, age 79, was reported missing on August 23 after he walked away from The Palmettos of Bluffton, an assisted living facility for the elderly located near Highway 170. Maj. Angela Viens, who represents the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that Tribble’s body was discovered in the area.
Approximately 11:25 a.m., Sgt. Ryan Fazekas of the Bluffton Police Department reported that Tribble had been discovered in a wooded and swampy area with several ponds located less than half a mile from the care facility. According to him, there were no signs of trauma.

Detective Sgt. Ryan Fazekas confirmed the discovery of Tribble’s body on Tuesday morning.
According to Fazekas, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office were called to a pond behind a private home on Okatie Highway about half a mile from the facility where Tribble resided.
Acting Police Chief Scott Chandler expressed the department’s sadness at the loss of Mr. Tribble and their disappointment that their efforts had not produced the desired outcome. The Bluffton Police Department is “humbled and grateful” to all the partner agencies and volunteers who helped bring Mr. Tribble home safely, because “we live in a special community.”
Tribble walked away from the facility and had not been seen since.
To help locate Tribble, Bluffton police have asked locals to check surveillance footage from their homes installed around the time he departed the facility.
