Salford’s under-18 pathway player and 2018 England Community Lions under-19s pick Logan Holgate passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday.

The Rugby Football League (RFL) said Holgate had a remarkable “work ethic,” “infectious attitude,” and “quick humor,” and that he will leave a “lasting legacy” in the wake of his death, and many others have echoed these sentiments.

The RFL confirmed the death of the Cumbrian teen on Wednesday. He had been playing for Hensingham and was a part of Salford’s development set-up.

The Salford Red Devils tweeted their condolences over Logan Holgate’s death.

“Logan played for our U18s route with @hensingham arl and was slated to make the jump to the reserve squad this season. At this time of great sorrow, we want his family and friends to know that they are in our thoughts.

The RFL took note of the hooker, noting that he had followed in the footsteps of his older brother Ellison by playing for the Lions and that he had the potential to become an outstanding player.

According to the league, “everyone linked with the England Community Lions Programme was grieved to learn about the tragic passing of Holgate.”

“The talented hooker, who played with distinction for Hensingham, including in the melting pot of the National Conference last season,” read a statement released by the RFL. “He followed in the family tradition in represent the Lions, hot on the heels of big brother Ellison and younger brother Fletcher.”

According to the league, the first time Holgate drew the eye of authorities was in 2021, when he made his Lions debut for the Under 16s in a triumph against Wales at Colwyn Bay.
