Showtime has stamped its seal of approval on a documentary about Kobe Bryant titled Kobe Bryant’s Muse, an in-depth look at the life of the NBA star. According to Showtime, the documentary will focus on the challenges that Bryant has faced as a professional athlete over his career, which has spanned the better part of two decades and is still going.

Kobe Bryant’s Muse is currently in production in Los Angeles and is being directed by Gotham Chopra, a lifelong Boston Celtic’s fan, whose work includes Decoding Deepak, ESPN’s upcoming 30 For 30 film, and The Little Master. Fans of the Los Angeles Lakers legend can expect to see highlights from his 18-year long career with the NBA, along with highs and lows both on and off the court, and access to his daily routine. The documentary will also feature the details of mentorships, alliances, and rivalries that have surrounded him in professional basketball.

Stephen Espinoza, EVP and General Manager of Showtime Sports released this statement about the project:

“Kobe Bryant’s Muse will offer viewers a deep character portrait of a professional athlete who has transcended his sport to become a culture-moving personality. We are thrilled that Kobe has given us this unprecedented access, which will allow our viewers to witness such a challenging period of time in the life of one of the NBA’s greatest players.”

The 16-time All-Star and winner of five NBA championships is currently sidelined after a series of injuries threatened the future of his career, but he is scheduled to be back on the court next season. In the meantime, Bryant is serving as executive producer on the project, along with Chopra, in conjunction with Mamba Media.

Showtime plans to roll out Kobe Bryant’s Muse this fall.
