Smith talked about her journey to finding self-confidence in an interview with ELLE. "Anyone who has known me throughout my life would say, 'Oh, Jodie has very high self-esteem.' But it affected me, I just faked it till I made it. It wasn't until adulthood that I began to come into myself. For a long time, people would even say to me, 'You're so pretty … for a dark-skinned girl.'"

In an interview with Allure, Smith shared her skincare secrets. She says that she likes to use baby moisturizer on her skin. "It's important to moisturize, it's the most important thing. Smith tells Refinery29 that her biggest acne secret is taking probiotics. "Throughout my life, and even after having the baby, I've struggled with skin issues like acne, and the best advice I've gotten was to take probiotics." According to a study in ISRN Nutrition, they have a lot of benefits. "There is increasing evidence in favour of the claims of beneficial effects attributed to probiotics, including improvement of intestinal health, enhancement of the immune response, reduction of serum cholesterol, and cancer prevention. These health properties are strain specific and are impacted by the various mechanisms mentioned above."

Smith is all about using products that are natural. "It's more about finding the purest elements of it now and really riding with those," she tells Allure. "Everything that I wear now and everything that I do [needs] to be something that complements what I'm doing with my daughter. I don't want to wear anything that irritates her skin. Because she spends so much time close to my body, I don't want to wear anything that's going to be overpowering for her. Everything that I am wearing, I know, is going to be an introduction for her to that scent. Everything that I wear, I want it to be natural, not something that is going to be rough for her to deal with or rough against her. I [also] don't wear as much lipstick for when I kiss her all the time."

Smith shared some of her favorite foods with Allure. She says that her entire family loves tea. "My Aunt Judy just mailed me all this lemongrass and soursop leaves so I could make tea with the soursop leaves. It's happening over here. At the end of the day, I believe that soursop is going to help my mental health, so I keep on with that."
