A Texas neighborhood is grieving the loss of a high school student who died in a head-on collision on Monday night.

According to KCBD, Meadow High School student Wes Woodard, 18, was traveling on County Road 230 to a school banquet when his automobile drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle.

The Texas Department of Public Safety claims that both drivers made an effort to avoid the incident but ultimately turned into one another. The unnamed second driver suffered minor injuries, while Woodard passed away.

In three weeks, the 18-year-old would graduate from high school.
