The untimely death of Emily Wegner, a math teacher for the seventh grade at Kiel Middle School since 2014, was announced by district administrator Dr. Brad Ebert on Friday afternoon.Around 4:30 p.m., an email was issued to parents, staff, and community members. On Friday, October 14, Dr. Ebert wrote: “I am writing you now with deep grief. The school system was informed this morning of the untimely death of Emily Wegner, a well-liked seventh-grade math teacher who had worked for the district since 2014. We are all devastated by this news as a school community. I can attest firsthand to Emily’s strong connections with our students, her excellence as a teacher, and the many wonderful friendships she forged with her coworkers. Our ideas are with her loved ones at this time.“As a result, we will make our counselors available to both students and staff in the upcoming days. Please encourage your kids to talk to a counselor or another responsible adult if they need help coping with this. In the following days, I’ll let you know when and where these counseling services will be offered.“Any school community has extreme difficulty when a staff person passes away. We anticipate that our students and staff will have a very difficult few days and weeks.“Our children and families can also use the School and Family Assistance Program.
