Gaylord Jackson Perry was one of the most well-known professional baseball players in America.

Perry was born in Williamston, North Carolina on September 15, 1938, to parents Evan Perry and Ruby Perry. He died on December 1, 2022.

Looking a bit into his baseball career, he played in Major Leagues as a right-handed pitcher for eight teams from 1962 to 1983. During a 22-year baseball career, Perry compiled 314 wins, 3,534 strikeouts, and a 3.11 earned run average. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991.

Gaylord was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame during his third year of eligibility in 1991. Fast forward to 1999, he was a finalist for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. In 1998, The Sporting News ranked him 97th on their list of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players.

He was honored on April 9, 2011, at AT&T Park with a 2010 World Series ring along with other San Francisco Giants greats Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda, and Willie Mays
