Thorsen Sr., age 76, discovered the joy of eternal life with the God of all grace and comfort on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

Eric will be missed and remembered with love by his wife, Rev. Janice Thorsen; children, Eric Thorsen Jr. (Mandira), Andrea Thorsen, Jennifer Thorsen (Steven Spezza); grandchildren, Aaliyah Thorsen and Sebastian Spezza; sister, Jayne Jacobsen (Randall); many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Iver and Ellen Thorsen. Upon graduation from the University of Michigan Law school, Eric clerked for a Federal District Judge before serving clients as an attorney with the law firm Miller Johnson, where he made many friends.

After 25 years as a successful lawyer, Eric heard the call to ministry and entered Chicago Theological Seminary.

Eric became an ordained minister in 1993 and was called to serve the Lord at Hudsonville United Church of Christ for the next 18 years.

Eric was a devoted and incredibly loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother with an incomparable sense of humor.

Eric blessed everyone he met with kindness and humility and was an inspiration to many. He will be remembered and missed. Funeral services for Eric will be held on Friday, June 3, at 3:00 P.M. at Park Congregational United Church of Christ, 10 E Park Pl NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.

Interment Georgetown Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at VanderLaan Funeral Home on Thursday, June 2, from 6 to 8 P.M. and on Friday from 2 to 3 P.M. at the church.
