Ellie Kemper was born on May 2, 1980 in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. She developed an interest in improvisational comedy and theatre while in high school. One of her teachers was actor John Hamm.
She attended Princeton University where she continued her interest in improvisational comedy. In 2010, she landed a role in Sofia Coppola’s comedy-drama Somewhere. She followed it with another supporting role in the 2011 film Bridesmaids.
She then auditioned for a role in Parks and Recreation. She didn’t get the part, but landed the role of Erin Hannon in The Office instead.
