Ukrainian gymnast Katya Dyachenko died on March 23, 2022.

The promising 11-year old passed after her home in the Southern Port City was shelled while street fighting and bombardments raged.

Russian soldiers have been hammering Ukrainian cities since the invasion began, but Mariupol has seen the brunt of the fighting.

The news of her death was given by the coach, Anastasia Meshchanenkov who in a post on Instagram.

Gymnastics organizations from all across the world have paid tribute to the young girl.

Hundreds of thousands of people are thought to be trapped within buildings, with no adequate food, water, electricity, or warmth.

Many women and children had also taken protection in basements.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in a video message to the Italian  parliament that there was nothing left there in Mariupol since the attacks.

The Russian bombardments continues in Ukraine at the time of this writing hence world leaders continue to deliberate on ways of ending this war.
