Beloved country singer, Naomi Judd has passed away at the age of 76.

Her daughter Ashley broke the news on both Instagram and Twitter saying, “Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory.”

Naomi Judd and her daughter Wynonna Judd were part of the successful country music duo, The Judds.

The Judds was formed in signed to RCA Nashville in 1983 and went on to release six studio albums. The duo won five Grammy awards and nine Country Music Association awards.

The group disbanded in 1991 after Naomi Judd was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. After their last tour, Naomi developed depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and suicidal thoughts. She was prescribed lithium. However, it came with side effects including edema, alopecia, and tremors.
