As Key and Peele comes to a close, we recently interviewed Key for an episode of the KCRW radio program The Business. In a wide-ranging discussion, Key discussed the state of TV comedy, how his audience sometimes misses the point of a joke, why Key and Peele is ending, and how he hopes to see more diversity in the world of sketch and improv.

Yet the end is near for this groundbreaking series; in July, the duo announced that the show’s current season will indeed be its last. And while that may mean the end of Key & Peele, the series, it does not mean the end of Key and Peele, the collaborators. “There will be Key and Peele productions coming up,” Key told Variety.

Key & Peele is an American sketch comedy television series created by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele that aired on Comedy Central. Both Key and Peele previously worked on Mad TV. Each episode of the show consists mainly of several pre-taped skits starring the two actors.

“Key & Peele” Season 5 will be the comedy’s swan song. The Comedy Central sketch show, starring Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, is ending, but it wasn’t the network who decided to cancel the show. When did the Key and Peele series start?

The series was first announced in June 2011 by Comedy Central. In anticipation of the show, Key and Peele launched a web series in support of the program. The series premiered in January 2012 on Comedy Central in the U.S. and on The Comedy Network in Canada. The first episode drew 2.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched Comedy Central launch since 2009.

The first two seasons of Key & Peele received positive reviews, maintaining a score 74 of 100 by the review aggregator site Metacritic. The third season of Key & Peele received critical acclaim, receiving a score of 82 on Metacritic.

On March 12, 2014, Comedy Central announced the network was developing an animated spinoff starring Vandaveon and Mike as 12-year-old hall monitors, in association with Key and Peele.

Key & Peele premiered on January 31, 2012 and ended on September 9, 2015, with a total of 53 episodes, over the course of five seasons.

On September 25, 2012, Comedy Central and Paramount Home Entertainment released ” Key and Peele – Season 1 ” on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Both formats feature bloopers, outtakes, a “Poolside Interview,” audio commentary with Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, “Backstage,” “Split Their Pants,” Key & Peele live at the South Beach Comedy Festival, and an easter egg of the show’s theme song.

Key & Peele have also created a YouTube commentary of their episodes under their alter-egos Vandaveon Huggins and Mike Taylor. Vandaveon and Mike analyze an episode, and suggest that low brow humor would make it funnier. These videos were also added to On Demand offerings of Key & Peele episodes.

How many viewers did Key and Peele have?

According to a story they told Jimmy Kimmel, Peele first encountered Key when he witnessed the comedian do his Coach Hines character at Second City way back in 2003, when Peele’s troupe, Boom Chicago, was visiting from Amsterdam. When it was Peele’s turn to perform, Key marveled at his Ute bit.

Raised by a single mom on New York City’s Upper West Side, Peele never really knew his dad. Taking a page out of his own life, Key & Peele aired a sketch in the second season, written by Peele’s former Boom Chicago partner Rebecca Drysdale, about Peele visiting a trailer park to find his long-lost dad. If you think it couldn’t be closer to home, Peele drops it right at his doorstep by mentioning to his father (played by Key) that he now has his own TV show.

In the early aughts, Key and Peele actually faced off against each other for a spot on MADtv. When asked about their audition, Key told Onward State, “They saw that we worked really well together because we both try really hard not to stop until something is right, and throw it out if it isn’t there.
