In 1982, a small regional production company based out of Champaign, Illinois, produced a series of short videos for a small local publishing company. Roger Fancisco, one of the founding partners of The Prairie Production Group, provided the voiceover.

Roger Francisco is the FitnessGram Man. FitnessGram, the infamous fitness test created by the Cooper Institute, has plagued generations of gym classes with its various assessments, including push ups and curl ups. The 20 Meter PACER (Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run) test is by far the most notorious of the bunch.

What is a Pacer test?
For nearly three decades, the Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run (PACER) Test has been used as part of the FitnessGram assessment in thousands of P.E. classes in all 50 states. Now the legendary voice of the school fitness test is changing. The Cooper Institute is proud to announce the launch of the FitnessGram PACER Test Remixes! powered by Hip Hop Public Health.
The test is used to measure a student’s aerobic capacity as part of the FitnessGram assessment. Students run back and forth as many times as they can, each lap signaled by a beep sound. The test get progressively faster as it continues until the student reaches their max lap score.
Who wrote the new fitness test?
Written and produced by our dynamic songwriter Quennel Worthy, the new 6-track album revamps the decades-old fitness test with hip-hop, pop, electronic dance and Latin-inspired beats, bringing a dance party vibe to the gym and motivating students throughout the 22-minute test.
