According to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, the renowned basketball player from Syracuse, Louis Orr, has passed away at the age of 64.

Louie Orr was the first player to commit to Jim Boeheim when the basketball coach at Syracuse began his Hall of Fame career. Orr was a standout at Withrow High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and one of the most natural scorers to come out of the Orange program. Together with Roosevelt Bouie, he founded the Bouie ‘, N Louie Show, amassing a record of 100-18 over the course of four years.

The Indiana Pacers selected Orr in the first round of the 1980 NBA Draft. Before playing six seasons with the New York Knicks, he played two seasons with Indiana. Throughout his NBA career, he averaged 9.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, including a career-high 12.7 points per game in the 1984–85 season.

Orr was a successful basketball player who later transitioned into coaching. He began his career as an assistant at Xavier before spending three years at Providence. Beginning with the 1996–97 season and continuing for a total of four years, he went back to Central New York to work as Boeheim’s assistant coach.
