Vanessa Guillén, a 20-year-old woman from Houston, Texas, was born in Ben Taub Hospital on September 30, 1999.

Her parents, Rogelio and Gloria Guillen, hailed from Zacatecas State in Mexico, and Vanessa was one of six siblings.

She attended Hartman Middle School and, as per her family, graduated from César E. Chávez High School in 2018, where she ranked among the top 15% of her class.

Vanessa was an active and athletic person who loved playing soccer, jogging, and engaging in various sports and learning opportunities.

In June 2018, Vanessa joined the United States Army, where she underwent training to become a Small Arms and Artillery Repairer with the military occupational specialty of 91F.

After her untimely death, Vanessa excelled in her duties and was posthumously promoted from the rank of Private First Class to Specialist on July 1, 2020.

Vanessa’s tragic death has garnered widespread attention. It has spurred discussions about the treatment of women in the military and the need for reforms to address issues of sexual harassment and assault within the armed forces.

Who Is Vanessa Guillen Sister Mayra Guillen?

Mayra Guillen, the sister of Vanessa Guillen, experienced a similar tragedy after her sister’s murder in Fort Hood almost three years ago.

Mayra is now speaking out to raise awareness about the case of Private Ana Basaldua Ruiz, a 20-year-old soldier who was found dead on the same military installation earlier this month.

Mayra Guillen decided to use her voice to bring attention to Ana’s case and honor her sister Vanessa and others who have lost their lives to sexual harassment and violence.

It has been nearly three years since the death of Vanessa, but for Mayra and her family, the pain is still fresh.

Seeing another family go through the same ordeal has been difficult, but Mayra is determined to use her experience and platform to help bring about change.

The family of Vanessa Guillen has been vocal in their criticism of the military’s handling of sexual harassment and assault cases. They hope that speaking out about Ana’s case can prevent other families from experiencing similar tragedies.

They are also pushing for more accountability and transparency from the military, demanding that those responsible for these crimes be held accountable for their actions.

Vanessa Guillen Murder Case

Vanessa Guillén, 20, was murdered on April 22, 2020, inside an armory at Fort Hood, Texas.

The perpetrator was another soldier, Aaron David Robinson, who bludgeoned her to death.

After around two months from Guillén missing, her dismembered remains were found buried along the Leon River on June 30.

Upon learning about the discovery, Robinson fled Fort Hood and ultimately fatally shot himself when law enforcement tried to apprehend him in nearby Killeen, Texas.

After Robinson’s girlfriend, Cecily Aguilar was taken into custody; authorities claimed she assisted him in dismembering and burying Guillén’s body.

Aguilar was charged on July 2, 2020, with one federal count of conspiracy to tamper with evidence.

On July 13, 2021, she was indicted by a federal grand jury on eleven counts.

Following that, Aguilar pleaded guilty to accessory to murder after the fact and three counts of making a false statement on November 29, 2022.
