Who Is Keyona Griffin?

Keyona Griffin is the woman who called 911 to inform them about the killing of her aunt and her possible murder. Seven minutes and 41 seconds after the call between Keyona and 911 ended, three Grand Rapids Police officers arrived at 553 Sheldon.

The Grand Rapids Police Department released bodycam footage of their arrival. After numerous tries to get into the house, they failed and did not try to contact anyone in between.

The authorities in Grand Rapids never made contact with anybody inside the residence. They left three minutes and 42 seconds after they arrived. 911 dispatchers got a second call from the same residence two hours and 18 minutes later.

Sanford Cummings II was his name. In an upstairs bedroom, he discovered his 25-year-old sister Keyona dead. She’d been shot four times, one of which hit her in the face. When officers returned, they discovered a second death at 553 Sheldon.

911 Call Transcript & Murder Update

47-year-old Cherletta Baber-Bey was discovered unconscious in her bed. She was wearing headphones and propped up on a cushion with an iPad that was still playing. She’d been hit in the back of the head with a bullet.

Cherletta was described by her family as a loving, trustworthy, and lovely woman who avoided social situations, according to Target 8. “Jay” was her first true boyfriend, and the two spent most of their time together in her bedroom.

Detectives discovered a box of letters in Cherletta’s closet during the murder inquiry. It was a series of “prison letters” between her and Derrell Brown. Derrell told Cherletta in those letters that he went by the name “Jay.” It was the signature on all of the letters.

Is The Suspected Murderer Arrested?

No, the suspected murderer has not been arrested yet.

The Grand Rapids Police Department provided a transcript of Keyona Griffin’s frantic 911 call hours before the murders in the days following the deaths, but restricted access to the call’s real audio.

Target 8 investigators attempted again in October 2021. We obtained the 911 audio and police report under the Freedom of Information Act in order to bring attention to the worldwide manhunt for the killer, which is now in its fourth year.

Brown, on the other hand, continues to walk free, most likely lurking in plain sight.
