The father of the Bakersfield, California native is both German-Jewish and African-American. His mother is of Dominican, Dominican, Japanese, and Spanish ancestry.

He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, in 1974, and in 1978 he started working at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.

He became a licensed medical specialist in 1978 after receiving his credentials and licensure.

At the moment, Dr. Karamo Chilombo works for Los Angeles Community Hospital which is connected to Monterey Park Hospital. He has extensive experience as a pediatrician.
