Jaire Alexander was born on February 9, 1997, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Growing up, he attended Rocky River High School in Mint Hill, North Carolina. During his time there, he played high school football for the Ravens.

Initially, he committed to the University of South Carolina to play college football. However, he later changed his commitment to the University of Louisville. He played with the Louisville Cardinals from 2015 to 2017 under head coach Bobby Petrino.

After his junior season in 2017, he made the decision to forgo his senior year and enter the 2018 draft. In the first round (18th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft, he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers.
