In Memoriam: Remembering Firefighter Cameron Craig – Abingdon Mourns a Hero

Abingdon, Virginia – The Town of Abingdon is in mourning following the tragic loss of 20-year-old Firefighter Cameron Craig, who lost his life in a fire truck accident on Thursday.

Cameron Craig, a dedicated member of the Abingdon Fire Department for approximately a year and a half, was killed in the crash. The community, along with the Town of Abingdon, extends their deepest condolences to his grieving family.

Amanda Pillion, Mayor of the Town of Abingdon, expressed the collective sorrow, saying, “On behalf of the Town of Abingdon, we would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family of Firefighter Cameron Craig. He was a dedicated member of the Abingdon Fire Department family and will be missed.”

The tragic incident unfolded at 5:23 p.m. as emergency crews were responding to a call in the Green Springs area of Washington County. It was on the 2100 block of Vances Mill Road, just outside Abingdon, that the fire truck crash occurred.

Virginia State Police have taken up the responsibility of investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the tragic accident.
