This devastating incident has left five children without their mother. The suspect, Dustin Phillips, became the target of an extensive manhunt by authorities. After an intense search, law enforcement located the suspect at a residence, where he was subsequently shot by them.
The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office reported the tragic discovery of Vennessa Phillips’ lifeless body outside her residence in the 100 block of Halo Trace in Sharpsburg. Prompt action was taken by deputies, who sought assistance from US Marshals and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Despite the identification of the suspect as the victim’s estranged husband, he remained elusive.
An update released on Wednesday morning indicated that authorities were actively searching for Dustin Phillips in the area around Highway 154 and Allison Lane. An arrest warrant for murder had been issued, emphasizing that he was considered armed and dangerous.
Later that same day, at approximately 9:30 p.m., law enforcement responded to the same residence, discovering that the suspect, Dustin, had returned. Allegedly brandishing a firearm at responding officers, he engaged in a shootout with the police, resulting in his demise. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s family revealed a history of mental and physical abuse suffered by Vennessa at the hands of the suspect. Jeyson Brooks, Vennessa’s brother, described the relationship as toxic, citing instances of Vennessa reaching out to authorities about the abuse. The couple had been residing in Tennessee before Vennessa moved back to Coweta County.
Jeyson Brooks expressed the family’s grief, emphasizing Vennessa’s dedication to her children. He described the suspect as a detrimental presence in her life, highlighting her repeated efforts to give him chances for change due to her hopeful heart.
