Cris Cyborg was married to her ex-husband, Evangelista Santo. He is a former professional mixed martial artist who competed from 1997 until 2016.

In January 2017, he retired and spent a year coaching in Curitiba, Brazil. He returned to the United States in early 2018 and is now coaching at his gym in Texas. Santos announced in August 2018 that he had no plans to compete again.

Cris and Evangelista initially met during a training session at the Chute Box Academy. Eventually, in 2005, the pair were legally married.
