Beloved bassist from America Michael Rhodes, 69, passed away.

American bassist Michael Rhodes was well-known for his session work, his support tours for other musicians, and his participation in bands and groups.

Born in Monroe, Louisiana, Michael Rhodes learned himself how to play the bass and the guitar by the time he was 13 years old. Rhodes relocated to Austin, Texas, in the early 1970s and joined local ensembles there. Rhodes relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, four years later, where he collaborated with Charlie Rich’s son Alan on stage.

After relocating to Nashville in 1977, Rhodes joined The Nerve, a local band, along with Ricky Rector and Danny Rhodes. He first played on demos for Tree Publishing Company before transitioning to studio work.

In the Cicadas, Rhodes worked alongside Vince Santoro, Eddie Bayers, Steuart Smith, Rodney Crowell, and more. They had been performing together for more than ten years, but they had only ever recorded one album, in 1997.

. Along with Richard Bennett, Crowell, Bayers, Vince Gill, Hank DeVito, and Hank DeVito, Rhodes was a part of The Notorious Cherry Bombs.

Numerous performers, such as Neal McCoy, Chely Wright, and Pat McLaughlin, have recorded with Rhodes’ assistance. There are many other musicians like Doug Stone, Wynonna Judd, Steve Winwood, Larry Carlton, the Dixie Chicks, Reba McEntire, Tanya Tucker, Hank Williams, Jr., Rosanne Cash, Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, Randy Travis, Faith Hill, Toby Keith, Joe Bonamassa, and Kenny Chesney.

Joe Bonamassa’s sideman Rhodes was active in recording and performing, and in 2019 he was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum.
