The passing of Tim Shaffer, Vice-Principal of Pinnacle Middle School in Denver, Colorado, has left his community and loved ones devastated. He died on Sunday, April 8, 2023, after battling an illness. His wife Leslie Shaffer announced his death through a fundraising page, where she expressed her heartbreak but also her belief that he is now in a better place. Tim will be forever remembered for his contributions to his community and his unwavering dedication to his family, pupils, and athletes.

According to the fundraising page, on Sunday, March 26, 2023, Tim suffered a full cardiac arrest. Fortunately, his son, Haydn, found him within a couple of minutes and started CPR immediately, while paramedics arrived within five minutes. Although his heart started beating on its own, Tim remained in critical condition and was placed on a ventilator. Despite this, he was surrounded by love and support from his wife and seven children while in the ICU.

Tim Shaffer was known to many as “Coach Shaff.” He was a resident of Denver, Colorado, and had been the Vice-Principal at Pinnacle Middle School since 2019. He studied leadership education and culturally and linguistically diverse education at Colorado State University and also obtained a Master’s in Education: Positive Coaching and Athletic Leadership at Mizzou. He was also a former U.S. Marine Corps and owned Shaffer Sports LLC in Broomfield, Colorado. Tim was a dedicated coach, referee, and educator who cared deeply about his pupils, athletes, and community.

On November 28th, 2022, Tim announced on Facebook that he was retiring after 17 years as a referee at Pomona High School. He was not only a devoted spouse, father of seven children, and the best grandfather to his granddaughter, but he was also a friend, son, and mentor to many. Tim was a person who cared about people’s well-being and who always gave his full attention and support to those who needed it. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in everyone he touched.
