Daniel Lopez Tim McCarver, a dependable catcher for 21 seasons in the major leagues before transitioning to broadcasting and earning the Hall of Fame, passed away at the age of 81.
McCarver passed away in his native Memphis on Thursday morning from heart failure, according to a statement from the Hall of Fame.
McCarver spent 12 seasons with the Cardinals, forming the core of two teams that won the World Series in 1964 and 1967 together with ace Bob Gibson.
He was a two-time St. Louis All-Star and set career highs in 1967 with a.295 average, 14 home runs, and 69 RBI while placing second to teammate Orlando Cepeda in the voting for the NL MVP.

McCarver is wed to Anne McDaniel. The couple had residences in Sarasota, Florida, and Napa, California.
Before skipping the 2020 season due to worries about COVID-19, McCarver had been an announcer for Fox Sports Midwest on a part-time basis in recent years and had handled the rare Cards game.
He was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in a big deal two years later, where he would play for them for the next nine seasons. McCarver was one of the few MLB players to appear in four separate decades while also playing for the Boston Red Sox and Montreal Expos.
