The Bold Type star Katie Stevens is getting candid about her breast cancer scare.

Stevens plays, Jane Sloan on the Freeform show and ironically her character is dealing with breast cancer. The actress used Instagram to explain she found a lump in her breast and immediately went to the doctor.

“I made an appointment with a breast specialist immediately, got an ultrasound, and quickly got the results that I had a benign tumor called a fibroadenoma. I have to continue to monitor it every six months, but women get these all the time, many women in my family have them too,” the 26-year-old explained in her post.

The actress is extremely grateful for her results. Stevens is sharing her story, so other people, men, and women understand the importance of self-exams and not immediately freaking out if a lump is found.

“I wanted to share this story because this is SO common for women as we get older, but it doesn’t make it any less alarming or scary. We should be having more conversations about this, and the biggest takeaway is: if you have something going on that you think might be a health issue, don’t wait. Get it checked out. It’s scary to find out that something might be wrong, but the quicker you get the information, the quicker you can do something about it, OR (in my case) the quicker you can have peace of mind!” she said.

The brunette beauty is beyond thrilled to continue to film The Bold Type, which is in the middle of shooting season 4. Steven is also deep into planning a wedding to her fiancé, musician Paul DiGiovanni.

“Knowledge is power. I now have an awareness of my body that I didn’t have before. And again, I’m 100% okay, happy and healthy and appreciating this body that I’m in,” she expressed.

Katie Stevens has revealed her scare with breast cancer as a reminder to fans that health is the oh so important. She also reiterated there are many things about a person’s body that can’t be controlled and is okay.

The recent health care she endured, is one she could have kept to herself. However, the budding young starlet felt it was her duty to use the platform she has been given thanks to her job as Jane on The Bold Type.
