Campbell was highly interested in music since his early childhood days and sang gospels in his early career in local churches. Then, after Quincy Jones introduced him to the R&B world in August 1989, Tevin Campbell’s singing career took a turn. With Warner Brothers Records in the year 1991, he released his debut album T.E.V.I.N. The album included his most successful single, Tell Me What To Do.

Campbell later released his second Double platinum album, I’m Ready (19923), and also had hit singles like Can We talk and I’m Ready. His songs helped him to nominate at prestigious Grammy awards on five separate occasions, notably the 35th Grammy Awards in 1993, with the album T.E.V.I.N but lost to Al Jarreau‘s album Heaven and Earth.

Though, he later won the Soul Train Music Award as the best R&B singer for the single Can We Talk in 1994. After a long hiatus from music since 2000, Campbell made a comeback on June 14, 2014, and performed a concert in New York City which was named as the An Evening with Tevin Campbell.
