Stephen Christopher Spagnuolo, born December 21, 1959, is an American football coach who currently serves as the defensive coordinator for the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs (NFL). He rejoined Andy Reid after working as a defensive assistant for him from 1999 to 2006.

Spagnuolo has won two Super Bowls as defensive coordinator, one with the New York Giants and one with the Kansas City Chiefs, making him the only coordinator (offense or defense) in NFL history to win a Super Bowl with two different teams.

Spagnuolo’s name came up as a replacement for numerous head-coaching vacancies after another successful season in 2008 when the Giants finished 12-4 but lost in the Divisional round of the NFL Playoffs. The Denver Broncos, New York Jets, and Detroit Lions were among the teams interested in Spagnuolo, but he chose to join the St. Louis Rams, taking over their head-coaching vacancy with a four-year, $11.5 million contract.

Spagnuolo hired Pat Shurmur as offensive coordinator and Ken Flajole as defensive coordinator. Spagnuolo then hired Josh McDaniels as offensive coordinator to replace Shurmur, who left to become head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
