Steve Javie (born January 17, 1955) is a former American professional basketball referee who worked for the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1986 to 2011. Javie has officiated 1,264 regular season, 190 playoff, and 18 NBA Finals games as of the start of the 2006–07 NBA season. Javie was a highly rated NBA referee, according to Referee magazine, and he was well-known in the officiating world for his game management abilities. During his NBA officiating tenure, he was also known for his speed in judging technical fouls. He attended and graduated from La Salle College High School before to his NBA career. From 1974 to 1976, he was a baseball player for Temple University, and from 1978 to 1981, he umpired in the Florida State League (Class-A). From 1981 until 1986, he worked as a basketball referee for the Continental Basketball Association (CBA).
