Emily Baldwin Sonja Morgan is taking care of herself – in her swimsuit. In a new social media post the Real Housewives of New York star reveals how she recently enjoyed a getaway at We Care Spa, where she indulged in a number of treatments and health practices. "Self care," she captioned the series of Instagram snaps. How does the reality star maintain her amazing, forever young figure? Celebwell rounded up some of her top health tips.
"I'm not a maniac at working out," Sonja told The Lookbook, via Bravo, about her approach to exercise. "I always think that's strange." Instead, she likes going on walks around New York City or finding activities to do with friends. Another one of her favorite ways to stay fit? Riding horses. According to the American Heart Association, riding horses is great for your health. Not only does it boost cardiovascular health, but builds core strength, burns calories, and lowers blood pressure. It is also great for your mental health as it helps relax you.
In her latest post, she shared a photo of herself taking a hot bath while at the spa. You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars a day at a spa to reap the benefits of hot water. Taking a daily bath has been linked to better sleep and even found helpful to minimize anxiety and depression. One recent study even found that they may even boast cardiovascular benefits.
At the We Care Spa, Sonja went on a strict cleanse. "No sugar, no white food, no gluten," she said. "Actually I'm only juicing right now. I'm doing colonics. I'm taking cinnamon, cloves, garlic: everything to kill everything and keep my immunities up. Lots of green juice."
Sonja prioritizes hydration. She regularly spikes her water with lemon, keeping two pitchers of H2O infused with lemon, mint, or basil in her fridge. She maintains that she downs "six to eight" glasses of water a day. She also drinks cherry juice. "Sour cherry juice is known to help you sleep, it's very calming and it cuts down on uric acid," she told Us about the compound that the body produces when drinking alcohol, leading to inflammation. "If you hang out with a party group like mine, sometimes it's not a bad idea." According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.
"I like that mind-body connection that I get when I'm in a more spiritual state, whether it's doing Zumba 'cause I'm out of my body dancing or the yoga or the Pilates," Sonja told The Lookbook. In her latest post, she strikes a yoga pose at WeCare. There is a laundry list of reasons to do yoga, explains Harvard Health. "Researchers found that people who practiced yoga for at least 30 minutes once a week for at least four years, gained less weight during middle adulthood," they said. "People who were overweight actually lost weight. Overall, those who practiced yoga had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) compared with those who did not practice yoga. Researchers attributed this to mindfulness. Mindful eating can lead to a more positive relationship with food and eating."
