James Austin Sofia Anna “Sonya” Kenin is an American professional tennis player. She has a career-high Women’s Tennis Association ranking of No. 4 in the world, which she achieved. She was the 2020 WTA Player of the Year, an award she earned by winning the 2020 Australian Open and finishing runner-up at the 2020 French Open.

Sofia Kenin was born to (mother) Svetlana and (father) Alex Kenin. Her family relocated to the United States a few months after she was born.
The duo had to leave the Soviet Union to settle in New York City in 1987. They later headed back to Russia for Kenin’s birth so that other family members could assist in raising her.
She is currently coached by her father, Kenin, who had helped develop her into a promising junior player, reaching No. 2 in the world after winning the Orange Bowl at the age of 16 and finishing runner-up in the 2015 US Open girls’ singles event the following year.
Sofia’s mum had served as a nurse in the Soviet Union.
