Ruth Buzzi Career

Ruth was a working actress and even had a union card before her graduation from college. At 19, she had her first job in show business. She was part of a live musical and comedy act, this was during her summer break from college.

After graduation, she moved to New York where she got the lead role in an off-Broadway musical revue. This was the first among 19 where she performed across the East Coast. In her numerous musical and comedy revues, she worked alongside other talented performers like the late Joan Rivers, Dom DeLuise, and Barbra Streisand. She was cast in many TV commercials, some that even went on to win national awards like the Clio Award.

In 1964, she gained national recognition with the series The Garry Moore Show. National fame came calling when she was cast as Shakuntala the Silent, a confused magician’s assistant.
