Marisa was raised in Fredericktown and attended East Bethlehem High School, which is now known as Beth Center, for his high school career. He played on rather ordinary teams in sports like football and basketball. While playing for Elmer Gross for the first two years and then John Egli for the following two years, Marisa was a part of some of the greatest Nittany Lion teams in history. Marisa was a member of the team that finished the 1953–1954 season with an 18–6 record, made it all the way to the NCAA Final Four, lost to La Salle, but won the consolation game against USC.
