American actor, stand-up comic, and novelist Richard Jay Belzer lived from August 4, 1944, until February 19, 2023.

He is most known for playing the roles of BPD Detective, NYPD Detective/Sergeant, and DA Investigator John Munch in the NBC police drama series Homicide: Life on the Street and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He has also made guest appearances on a number of other programmes. From 1993 till his retirement in 2016, he acted as the part for 23 years.
