On December 15, 2022, Rachel Lynn Foelske – Upshaw, a devoted wife, mother, aunt, sister, and daughter, passed away at Allen Hospital.

On June 29, 1971, Rachel Foelske, the oldest child of Ron and Melodie Foelske, was born in Algona, Iowa. She was raised on the family farm, where she discovered a lifelong passion for taking care of animals. In 1989, Rachel earned her high school diploma in Janesville. After completing medical school at the University of Iowa in 1998, Rachel earned her undergraduate degree from Buena Vista College in 1993. Later, she finished her residency in Mason City, where she also met her future husband, John. On April 1, 2000, Rachel and John Upshaw were legally wed.

John and Rachel cherished being outside, visiting their cabin in Lansing, and gardening. Rachel was a loving mother who enjoyed playing a significant role in her kids’ daily lives. She was really proud of the young women they were growing into. They held a special place in her heart and soul.

Pastor Elizabeth Palmer will preside over the funeral services on Tuesday, December 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver, Iowa. Following is burial in the church cemetery. Both on Monday, December 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver, Iowa, and on Tuesday, one hour before the service, there will be visitation.
