Longtime Cincinnati health pioneer Dr. O’Dell Owens passed away on Wednesday afternoon at the age of 74. Dr. O’dell Owens passed away from a heart attack.

Dr. O’Dell Moreno Owens, a longtime pioneer in Cincinnati-area healthcare and education who was twice chosen to serve as Hamilton County Coroner.

Owens, who was born and reared in Cincinnati’s West End, graduated from Yale University with a doctorate in medicine, a master’s degree in public health, and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology.

He was the second oldest of O’Dell Owens and Angelita Moreno Owens’ seven children, and he was well-known around the country for his work in in vitro fertilization.

From 2016 until his resignation, Owens was president and CEO of the nonprofit organization Interaction for Health, which promotes health.

Nobody would have anticipated his abrupt demise. But everything is in God’s hands. At the age of 74, Dr. O’Dell Owens passed away. Heart failure caused Dr. O’Dell Owens’ death.

I was shocked to learn of Dr. O’dell Owens’ passing. Dr. O stood up for a lot of people and was an excellent example of a community servant and family man. In Cincinnati, he blazed new paths, and he was also a really kind man. I was devastated when my boyfriend passed away from a pulmonary embolism. For me, Adrian had purchased a ring. I had no idea how I would survive without him. Dr. O called, frequently checked on me, and said that if I had been present, I wouldn’t have been able to assist Adrian. That helped me feel a little better and gave me some confidence to gather myself and return to work. Dr. Owens was a wonderful friend who exhibited kindness and sympathy.
