Carla Lewis was a woman from Nile Township, Michigan, but she was a native of Benton Harbor in Berrien County, Michigan.

Her name came into the media prominence after she was murdered in August 2017 at her home. When the officers started an investigation, they discovered a heady cocktail of weed, affairs, and alleged intruders behind the homicide.

When the murder news was shared, everyone was shattered, and later, it was known that Lewis was killed by her own husband, John Lewis.

Nile Township Carla Lewis Murder Update 2023

Nile Township lady Carla Lewis was murdered in 2017, and the case still drags the eyes of people in 2023. On August 13, 2019, police responded to a distress call from her husband, John Lewis.

After the call, Berrien County sheriff’s investigators reached 1429 Lawndale Avenue in Nile Township at about 6:00 pm. The officers were shocked as they found Carla’s body lying face down in a room hidden behind a makeshift bookshelf in the basement.

Later, an autopsy report revealed that she was shot five times. On the other hand, her husband went to the police station to give his version of the events leading to the killing. 

John told the officers that his wife had visited her mother for the weekend and returned that Sunday afternoon. According to John, the duo discussed their weekend activities before going into the basement, where they grew marijuana plants.

They were shifting and tending to the plants when John heard Carla scream and looked up to see allegedly at least two guys shooting at them. However, the detectives didn’t believe John’s story.

Moving onwards, Carla Lewis’ husband, John Lewis, said he never owned a gun or purchased any firearm. While the interrogation was going on, the detectives received a phone call from a man named Justin Hicks, who was working construction in Lewis’ business. 

Justin told the officers Lewis texted him around 1:53 pm, asking him to come to his place. Likewise, the man claimed John gave him the store keys and asked him to take ammunition from his store, which Justin keeps in his car.

After knowing the incident, Justin handed the police eight boxes of Russian-made 9-mm ammunition and a magazine for a 9-mm pistol. Furthermore, caliber ammunition with steel casings matched those recovered from the crime scene.

Due to that, John was linked with the murder of his wife. After collecting all the evidence, John was arrested and slapped with one count of first-degree murder charge.

Where Is Carla Lewis Killer John Lewis Now?

As stated earlier, Carla Lewis’ murderer John Lewis was charged with one count of first-degree murder. Likewise, he was sentenced to life without parole in March 2019. 

So, now, John is spending his time at the Carson City Correctional Facility. Furthermore, John does plan to appeal his sentence, but Carla’s family said they don’t think the appeal will hold after being found guilty by a 12-person jury.
