On July 8, 2020, Josie’s mum, Naya Rivera was pronounced missing after he was found sleeping alone in Rivera’s rented boat at Lake Piru. He was wearing a life jacket on, and an adult life jacket was also found on the boat.

A search and rescue mission was issued immediately, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department confirmed on Twitter, featuring dive teams, drones, and helicopters.
