Meg Ryan, an American actress, was born Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra on November 19, 1961.

Her career was launched when she made her acting debut in the drama film Rich and Famous in 1981. In 1982, she subsequently joined the cast of the CBS soap opera As the World Turns.

She first started to appear in supporting roles in movies in the middle of the 1980s, including the box office success Top Gun, before becoming well-known for her work in the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.. (1989), directed by Rob Reiner earning her her first Golden Globe nomination.

Ryan was born and raised in Fairfield, Connecticut, by his parents Harry Hyra, a math teacher, and Susan Jordan (née Duggan), a former actress and English teacher. Her father is a native of Poland. She attended St. Pius X Elementary School in Fairfield and was raised a Catholic.
