Maurice Boucher was allegedly stabbed in prison. He had cancer and was serving a 22-year-to-life sentence at the Sainte-Anne-des-Pleines Penitentiary north of Montreal. Before his death, he was transferred to a correctional healthcare facility.

The 69-year-old was a notorious criminal in Quebec. Prior to his arrest, he ran a multi-million dollar drug trafficking empire. Boucher was imprisoned in 2002 for ordering the murder of two Quebec prison guards, Pierre Rondeau and Diane Lavigne.

Maurice Boucher enters a guilty plea to a murder conspiracy involving a rival. During his time in prison, he also pleaded guilty to a conspiracy to assassinate rival underworld figure Raynald Desjardins, who was sentenced for conspiracy in the slaying of Mob boss Salvatore Montagna in 2011.
