Marcus Fairs, the CEO of Dezeen, died at the age of 54. He started the design site 16 years ago in his spare room. Dezeen was acquired last year by JP/Politiken Media Group, a Danish company.

He founded the Icon magazine in 2003 and has since received numerous design accolades, including an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Institute of British Architects. The Evening Standard named him one of the 1,000 most influential Londoners in 2017.

What we have managed to piece about what caused his death is that he checked himself into a hospital after feeling ill but he passed away shortly afterward.

His unexpected passing shocked the world when the sad news broke. This is because he was well-liked by most of his peers.

A tweet from The Architects’ Journal reads: ” We are very saddened to hear of the passing of Marcus Fairs – what he accomplished with Dezeen was a phenomenal contribution to architecture and design publishing and we are all the poorer for losing him. Our thoughts are with his colleagues, friends, and family.”
