An elderly man who had previously been convicted of child sexual assault was fatally beaten by the Minnesota man, who thought the man had previously stalked his young daughter.

Lawrence  Scully, 77, was beaten to death on Wednesday at his home in Grand Marais. Levi Axtell, 27, has been charged with second-degree murder in his death.

He was taken into custody and accused of second-degree murder.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Scully was discovered dead inside his Grand Marias house on Wednesday.

A witness reported to the police that they saw someone driving into the victim’s yard in a white Dodge Caravan.

Before reportedly running inside the house, the driver allegedly got out and crashed a car in the driveway.

The witness claimed that after hearing screams emanating from inside the building, the driver once more appeared and drove away.

The driver, who was subsequently identified as Mr. Axtell, reportedly drove directly to the police station, where he fell to the ground and begged officers to handcuff him before he hurt anyone else.

When police arrived at Scully’s house, they discovered his corpse next to a bloody shovel.

He perished from blunt force head injuries, and an initial autopsy revealed that he also had arm wounds from self-defense.
