Last Chance U Basketball players Joe Hampton, Deshaun Highler and Malik Muhammad have gone on to successful careers. Hampton is now playing in Columbia.

The show “Last Chance U: Basketball” on Netflix tells the story of the East Los Angeles College (ELAC) Huskies basketball team and their coach, John Mosley.

Besides, numerous ex-players from the TV series have found great success in pro basketball leagues in the US and abroad. They have made a name for themselves and excelled in their careers on the court after their time in the show.

It is intriguing to witness how these athletes, who got another shot at their careers through Last Chance U, have been doing after they left junior college.

With season two ending in December 2022, fans eagerly await the third season, which is scheduled to come out at the end of 2023.

1. Joe Hampton

Joe Hampton emerges as the top player on the Last Chance U Basketball roster for season 1. Hampton serves as an invaluable asset to the Netflix show.

Though he chose to play for Penn State, he ultimately landed at ELAC after high school. After leaving ELAC, he played for two seasons at Long Beach State, where he had solid performances.

Unfortunately, Hampton faced a setback during the 2021-22 season when he hurt his wrist and missed the team’s last ten games. Hampton moved to Colombia after the season’s end to join the Piratas De Bogota basketball team.

Moreover, in November 2022, the 25-year-old parted ways with the Bogota franchise after they got eliminated from the Colombian playoffs.

2. Malik Muhammad

Malik Muhammad is a professional basketball player who plays as the center for the Campbellsville Tigers. Malik made appearances in five episodes of Last Chance U.

Many fans of the popular sports documentary series are keen to know where are last chance u players now. Muhammad, who played college basketball at East Los Angeles College, made a move to Central Michigan University for the 2020-21 campaign.

After spending one season with the Chippewas, Malik transferred to Southern Utah University in 2021. Right now, he is part of the men’s basketball team at Campbellsville University.

Muhammad played 19 games for the Tigers in the 2021-22 season averaging 5.5 points and 5.8 REB per game.

3. Deshaun Highler

Deshaun Highler is one of the Last Chance U Basketball season 1 players. Highler has played for East Los Angeles College and Sacramento State University.

He started his basketball journey at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) but later transferred to ELAC. After the 2019-20 season, he left the Huskies and made a big move to play for the Division I team at Sacramento State.

However, with a lack of game time with the Hornets, appearing in only 21 games over two seasons. Because of this, he parted ways and decided to explore other options.

In October 2022, Highler decided to go and play professionally in Colombia for a team named Cimarrones Del Choco.

4. KJ Allen

KJ Allen also makes the list of major players from Last Chance U Basketball. Allen showed up in four episodes in season one of the TV series.

Allen had first planned to go to the University of Southern California (USC) after leaving ELAC, but in April 2021, he changed his mind and decided to join Texas Tech.

He initially said he would go to Texas Tech, then changed his mind again and did not go to USC, but finally signed up with Texas Tech. Currently, Allen is playing for the Red Raiders men’s basketball team. 

During both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, he had only a few opportunities to play for Texas Tech. Last season Allen capped 23 games averaging 2.4 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

5. Dezmond Washington

Last Chance U Basketball season 2 players feature a Starkid Dezmond Washington. He is the sole returning player to ELAC for the 2021-22 season.

After finishing high school, Dezmond became a part of the ELAC Huskies basketball team, where he played as both a guard and a forward.

Later, after the season, Dez decided to join the Crookston Golden Eagles and play for them. A former player from the critically acclaimed basketball series “Last Chance U”, has had an eventful journey.

The 6-foot-6 Pasadena, California native chose to further his education and sports career at The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMN). Presently, Washington is working on his major in General Studies.

6. Bryan Penn Johnson

After Dezmond Washington, Bryan Penn Johnson has the most appearances in the Last Chance U: Basketball show with 8 episodes.

Johnson starred in the second season of the Netflix documentary series, showcasing his journey as a student-athlete and the impact the sport had on his life

Since leaving ELAC, Bryan has moved on to play basketball for the Cal Poly Mustangs, which is the team of California Polytechnic State University.

Bryan, who has been playing basketball since eighth grade, said he is extremely thrilled to be part of the Mustangs teams. He also shared with the media that he intends to remain at Cal Poly for the two remaining seasons he can play.

7. Shemar Morrow

Shemar Morrow is a 6-foot-4 small forward who played as a small forward for the ELAC team. Morrow starred in 8 episodes of season two of the Last Chance U: Basketball series.

As of now, the Cleveland, Ohio native is studying in his sophomore year at East Los Angels College. However, Shemar has not made a single-game appearance since 2022.

Shemar’s family moved to Sacramento, California, where he attended La Mirada High School. Afterward, they relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, and Shemar joined Shadow Mountain High School. It was there that he honed his basketball skills and gained popularity.

Besides, Morrow played in the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team October minicamp back in 2016.

8. Demetrius Calip II

The second season of Netflix’s Last Chance U Basketball featured an entire new lineup of players featuring Demetrius Calip II.

Calip, a Flint, Michigan homegrown, is a former high school basketball player for Taft High in Chicago. He is the son of former NBA star Demetrius Calip who played for the Los Angeles Lakers in 1991.

In addition, Jr Demetrius, “DC,” had the opportunity to play for the UIC Flames, the men’s basketball team at the University of Illinois. His exceptional performance there earned him recognition as a promising player in the NCAA Division I.

Afterward, in the 2021-2022 season, DC became a member of the ELAC Huskies. And now, in the 2022-2023 season, Calip is still connected with ELAC and is present on the team’s active roster.

9. Levelle Zeigler

Levelle Zeigler went on to join Chicago State Cougars in 2020 after his brief role at ELAC. Zeigler appeared in the 1st season of Last Chance U Basketball.

Levelle, also known as LV, started his basketball career playing at Ridgeview High School. He then entered East Los Angeles College, where he spent two entire seasons.

Zeigler also got the chance to get featured in Netflix’s Last Chance U during his second year. After his ELAC days, he then joined the Chicago State Cougars (CSU) basketball team.

In his debut season with CSU, he had an average of 10.9 points, 2.4 assists, 1.9 rebounds, and 38.6 FG% per game.

10. Damani Whitlock

Damani Whitlock is currently playing at the Texas A&M University-Texarkana Eagles upon leaving ELAC. Whitlock joined the team in November 2022.

He was featured in the 2nd season of Last Chance U: Basketball in 2022, where he appeared in two episodes. The 6-footer point guard is a native of Eastvale, California was part of the ELAC team.

Whitlock played 21 games during his time at ELAC. Since his appearance on Last Chance U season 2, he has switched to a new team.

Damani’s Instagram bio reveals that he now plays for the Texas A&M University-Texarkana Eagles (TAMUT), where he continues to shine as a point guard under head coach Ryan Wall. 

Besides, Whitlock has posted a picture on Instagram wearing his TAMUT uniform.
