Actor Lance Kerwin, known for his roles in “James at 15” and “Salem’s Lot,” a miniseries based on a Stephen King novel, passed away on Tuesday in San Clemente, California.
He was 62.
According to Savanah, his daughter, an autopsy is still being performed to ascertain the precise cause of death.

Kerwin started out as a child actor, appearing in a number of films and TV shows, including “The Boy Who Drank Too Much.” James’ age changed from “James at 15” to “James at 16” in the second season.

As James Hunter, Kerwin starred in the films “James at 15” and “James at 16.” The first premiere of “James at 15” occurred in 1977, and it featured a young adolescent boy named James who was interested in photography but had to relocate from Oregon to Massachusetts with his family. There was a lot of backlash to the show after an episode where James had his first experience with sexual activity before getting married aired. “James at 16,” NBC’s continuation of the narrative of the troubled boy, would run for 21 episodes in the 1977–1978 season. Unlike most 1970s teen shows like “Happy Days,” which had performers in their 20s, this one actually featured teenagers.

Kerwin’s starring role on “James at 15” would make him a teen idol despite the show’s short run of only two seasons. Millions of young women in the 1970s found inspiration in the adolescent idol, and he was featured on the covers of several fan magazines, including Tiger Beat.

In a 2019 interview, he said that Tobe Hopper was “on a completely different level than most directors I had worked with” during their time together on “Salem’s Lot.”

“The part in the bedroom where the vampire boy (I believe it was Danny Glick) knocks on the window and says, “Let me in,’ was fairly interesting.” Don’t keep me out. The film was running backwards in the camera for the duration of the sequence. We started at the very end and worked our way back to the very beginning, where I am lying in bed when I first open my eyes. So that’s why it seems unusual…unusual in some way. He explained to Casey Chambers, “the smoke is flowing differently due of the way that sequence was shot.”

The actor who played young James in “James at 15” went on to star in numerous TV shows and films during the 1970s, including “Wonder Woman,” “Insight,” “The Family Holvak,” and “Young Joe, the Forgotten Kennedy.” His last film appearance was in 1995’s “Outbreak,” and his most recent was in 2017’s “The Wind and the Reckoning.”

For his part in “Salem’s Lot,” Lance Kerwin attended horror conventions.

After that, he moved to California and Hawaii to work as a youth pastor there.

Kerwin had her first TV appearances as a child star in shows including “Little House on the Prairie,” “Emergency!” and “Cannon.” She was born on November 6, 1960, in Newport Beach, California.

Savanah, Fox, Terah, Kailani, and Justus are Kerwin’s five surviving children.

Kerwin and Kristen Lansdale’s daughter Savanah Paige joined his four children with wife Yvonne Kerwin. Around the middle of the ’90s, he stopped acting. His relationship to the actor Brian Kerwin was nonexistent.

Kerwin was a “minister at Calvary Chapel in Kapaa, Hawaii and a U-Turn for Christ program leader,” according to a July 2010 article. Kerwin and his wife Yvonne are included in the same piece, where they admit to filing false paperwork to qualify for Hawaii’s Medicaid program. Kerwin received a sentence of 300 hours of community service and five years of probation. He admitted fault in front of the whole world.

When Kerwin passed away on January 24, 2023, he was 62 years old and living in San Clemente, California.
