Kenneth Barber Dies In Officer-Involved Shooting in Vermont state
James Williams A Fair Haven police officer shot and killed a man on Monday night, and the victim has been identified by Vermont State Police.
After hearing complaints of an altercation, police were called to a residence at 26 Washington Street, where they say Kenneth Barber Jr., 38, of Castleton, was present.
According to the police, a preliminary investigation shows that Barber left the residence carrying a handgun and got into a dispute with several neighbors, who were eventually able to restrain and disarm him. When the police arrived, Barber managed to escape and tried to flee in his car, hitting Det. Shaun Hewitt in the process. According to them, Hewitt only shot his service weapon once, striking Barber in the torso.
Melissa Hassler remarked, “I didn’t fully understand what was happening. I continue to tremble.
Hassler dashed to Washington Street after hearing a shot fired. The nurse, who was off-duty, sprung into action to assist Barber.
Hassler stated, “Put pressure on his wound, gave him a sterile rub.” “He was just lying there; he wasn’t saying anything.”

When Barber arrived at the hospital, doctors declared him dead.
The cause of the argument with the neighbors and Barber’s demise is being looked into by the state police.
