Jonathan Gilbert, 24, was killed during a police chase in Danville early on Monday morning when his single-vehicle GTA crashed.

Police reportedly tried to pull over a black Mercedes early on Monday morning in Danville at Main Street and Fairweight Street. The car eventually left the area before colliding into a house’s porch on the 300 block of North Griffin Street. After leaving the scene of the collision, the Mercedes drove off the road and struck a tree in the 800 block of East Seminary Street.

Gilbert suffered severe impact trauma injuries and was pronounced dead at the site.

Investigation results showed that the Mercedes had been reported stolen from Tilton, Illinois, according to DPD.

Investigations continue into the incident’s origin.
