Being the best-dressed baby in Hollywood isn’t easy. However, Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney, the child of Olivia Munnand John Mulaney, got loads of attention today when Olivia posted an image of the child wearing adorable accessories based on one of 2021’s most beloved and enduring memes.

Munn, most famous for her role in The Newsroom and her regular appearances on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, posted a photo to her Instagram showing baby Malcolm being taken on a walk. However, the baby is perfectly dressed for the cold winter weather. 

The most notable thing about Malcolm Mulaney’s outfit is their distinctive mittens. These mittens are a child-sized re-creation of the mittens made famous by the infamous Bernie Sanders meme. The picture has the caption “My Mom Made Malcolm Bernie Sanders’ Mittens,” showing that this isn’t just a random coincidence. 

The meme started on January 20, 2021. At Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration, Bernie Sanders was photographed sitting in a chair wearing a massive jacket, face mask, and the chunky yet distinctive mittens. This outfit, mixed with Bernie’s glum facial expression, caused the image to go viral. Many internet users edited Bernie into classic film and television scenes, including Batman, Star Trek, and Forrest Gump. Bernie responded positively to the meme, even releasing a charity sweatshirt featuring the viral image.

Many people tried to work out where Bernie got the mittens from, keen to get a pair of their own. It was later revealed that the mittens were made by Jen Ellis. A Vermont elementary school teacher. While Ellis has stopped making mittens, the immense demand convinced her to create and auction off three pairs of them. She would then team up with Vermont Teddy Bear to make a new range of official mittens. This range donates part of its proceeds to Make a Wish Vermont.

Munn and Mulaney started dating in 2021 after John Mulaney finished a highly-publicized stay in rehab. The couple announced that Munn was pregnant in September, and she gave birth in November. However, no matter what happens, it seems that young Malcolm Mulaney will always be on top of trends.
