Dylan O’Brien was born in Manhattan and raised in Hermosa Beach, California. He started uploading original videos to his YouTube channel when he was 14 years old.

A local producer approached him during his senior year of high school about working on a web series. O’Brien met an actor who introduced him to a manager while working on the show.

He abandoned his plans to study sports broadcasting at Syracuse University in order to pursue acting.

O’Brien played drums for the unsigned rock group Slow Kids at Play during the exploratory stage of his career.

He was cast in a major part in MTV’s Teen Wolf in 2010, which was loosely based on the 1985 movie Teen Wolf.

He performed the part of Thomas in both The Maze Runner (2013) and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015). He sustained significant injuries while filming The Death Cure in 2016 on location.
