Is Daredevil No Longer Canon? – Celebrity
Olivia House It’s official — Daredevil is canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After actor Charlie Cox reprised his role as Matthew Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans questioned whether or not this was the same version of the character seen across all three seasons of the former Netflix series, or another variant for the MCU.
Despite the events of Daredevil and Murdock now being MCU canon, there is no official word on whether the same goes for his Defenders teammates. Out of the four main Defenders — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Danny Rand/Iron Fist — and Frank Castle/The Punisher, only Daredevil’s biography is fully updated.
But then the Netflix Marvel canon received a few setbacks, like negative reviews for Iron Fist, and The Defenders. Finally, Disney (which owns Marvel now) exercised its hegemony over acquiring all these characters and that was the end of the Canon.
After a stellar three-season run, Netflix surprisingly canceled the show, thus putting an end to Matt Murdock’s story. Even though the show was canceled, Daredevil continued to be a consistent subject of discussion among fans. From online petitions to Twitter trends, fans’ support for the character hasn’t wavered in the past few years.
Is Netflix’s Daredevil Now MCU Canon?
Daredevil director Steven DeKnight shared several responses on Twitter about Charlie Cox’s return as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen for the MCU.
DeKnight’s response is understandable since there’s a strong chance that he is not directly involved with Charlie Cox’s upcoming return to the Marvel brand. On the flip side, his “no idea” comment could be his way of avoiding Marvel snipers, and he could have already been given a heads up about the actor’s comeback to the MCU.
